BBC Reading Program

Today the Beastie Book Club's Reading Program started and it went great! With a nearly unanimous vote, the teens chose the first Harry Potter book as our reading material. We read the first chapter of the book, discussed it, had snacks, and did a quick craft! Everyone had a lot of fun and it was a great time for us as well.

It isn't too late to show up to our club either! We'll always begin meetings with a book recap so that no one feels left out even if they miss a chapter here or there. We'd love to see even more teens show up next week!

The Book of Mormon Girl

By Joanna Brooks

This was an interesting story of growing up Mormon and her conflict with her feminist ideas and rejection of the church. She goes through a transformation into living in a larger world yet continuing to love the values she learned in her church upbringing.

The Book of Mormon Girl is available at the Marshall Public Library. It is located in the Biographies section. Come in a pick it up for a great read!

The Need Series- Review

Teen/YA Novel
Reading level: Ages 12 and up

Zara White wears peace embroidered t-shirts and writes to the leaders of foreign countries begging for equality and peace, so why is it she ends up in a town filled with creatures that want her dead?
In the small town in Maine Zara finds that the life she has known is all a hoax and she must fight for freedom. In a place where her boyfriend is a werewolf, her step grandma's a tiger shifter and the fae folk hide in the forest calling for her death, Zara realized a startling truth. When it comes down to it, she is the greatest monster in their fairy tale.

Finished! Finally finished and now I can gush about how much I adore this series. I am so happy to finish this series and also horribly sad. This was one of those books that I honestly had no idea how it was going to end. That is ridiculously refreshing considering that a lot of teen books are nice to read, but horribly predictable. This was outstanding, as a series I give it 5/5 stars.

Series Order: Need, Captivate, Entice, and Endure

5/5 stars for the whole series!

Dead In The Water - Patron Review

Dead In The Water

By Stuart Woods

I thoroughly enjoy Stuart Woods' Stone Barrington novels. Even though this is an older book in the series, it holds up just as well as the new ones. It's a great read because it feels like a real mystery - one where you truly don't know what will happen until the end. The book is set in St. Marks, where there has been a death at sea, and Stone Barrington represents the spouse accused of their involvment in the death. It focuses on the injustice of the court systems in the St. Marks area. Pick the book up on a relaxing day, and you just won't be able to put it down. For that matter, you won't be able to put down any Stone Barrington novel you pick up.

Rating: 4/5

Dead in the Water is not currently available at the Marshall Public Library, but it is readily available through our consortium. Just place a hold online or give us a call and we can get it for you!

Teen Program Resumes Next Week!

Our Teen Program, the Beastie Book Club, is resuming next week on Thursday, January 10th! The program is for all teens around the ages of 5th-8th grade, and is from 5:30 to 6:30 every Thursday evening. For those of you who have been coming regularly, please note the adjusted time schedule due to the library's new operating hours.

The Beastie Book Club is a great place where teens can learn about books and the library, while doing lots of hands-on activities such as crafts and games. Each month we highlight a different genre of the teen section, and we talk about the books in that section during our meetings.

We are also adding an additional program to the Beastie Book Club! This program will be taking place each Saturday (except the third saturday of the month) and will be from 10:30 to 12:00 in the morning. This will be a program with a heavier focus on reading and discussion, as we will be reading some great middle school-age books together and discussing them while having snacks and occasionally playing some games.

The programs are seperate, so attendence to both isn't a neccesity, but we'd love to see you there!

For more information on the Beastie Book Club, and to see some of the crafts and games we've played, check out the Teen Program's blog the link below!
